Recently, we have been talking about the latest GMK keysets, let’s go back in time with Picaps this week. We are going to check out the GMK Olivia++, a very elegant colorway, that was released near the end of 2019 on Geekhack. We will talk bout the differences between the original GMK Olivia (2018) and GMK Olivia++; The meaning of the “++” symbol as well as the story behind their novelties.
GMK Olivia Plus Plus
Olivia originally was created based on the maker’s love of Rose Gold, it is, in deed, already elegant from the start. While in the original version only has a light them, the ++ version has both light and dark theme, giving us more choices. Another classy “upgrade” for the set is a shiny PVD Rose Gold enter key compare to artisan XO keycaps of the precedent.
GMK Olivia
- Only has 1 Light version
- ESC, Space Bar and Arrows are Rose Gold
- Extra: Aluminum XO artisan keycap
GMK Olivia++
- 2 versions: Light and Dard
- ESC and Enter are Rose Gold, Arrows have the options to be Dark or Rose Gold
- Extra: PVD Rose Gold Hihihi enter key
- More personalize with “<2” novelties, “hi” keycaps
And of course, the name of the set is also different! But why not “+” but “++”?
It is a reference to a programming language called “C++”, an improved version of “C”. And when you type “++”, it is a command to add 1 more variable. So by “++”, Olivia meant that this version has many upgrades and also came with an additional Dark version (surprised!).
Back in the day when Olivia was still a small group in Discord, they accidentally did a heart symbol using “<2” instead of “<3”, and it has become their signature heart until now. So, if you come across someone typing “<2” for the heart, either he/she is a Olivia’s fan or it is a genuine typo 😀
GMK Olivia++ is an elegant colorway that Picaps team has been thinking of for awhile. It will be very interested to see how our sculpts look like in Rose Gold.
